Champion Racing Association's 2013 season kicked off on Friday, January 25th with an optional practice day for SpeedFest 2013. Months of anticipation for the season-opening event led up to the first cars hitting Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia as teams dialed in their ARCA/CRA Super Series and JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Late Models for this weekend's SpeedFest event.
Thirty ARCA/CRA Super Series Super Late Models hit Watermelon Capital Speedway for the optional practice rounds Friday, while 29 JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour Pro Late Models were shaken down Friday.
Travis Sauter twice, Kyle Benjamin, Jake Griffin, Austin Theriault and Erik Jones were quickest in each of the six ARCA/CRA Super Series practice rounds Friday at Watermelon Capital. Sauter's fast time of 15.719-seconds was the fastest ARCA/CRA Super Series lap of the day.
Chase Elliott, Mike Garvey, Hunter Robbins, Cody Coughlin and Alex Roberts twice topped the speed charts in each of the six JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour presented by Chevrolet Performance practice sessions. Robbins' lap of 16.045 was the quickest lap turned in the JEGS/CRA division Friday.
Saturday's action officially kicks off SpeedFest 2013 weekend. Pit gates will open for competitors at 8:30am. ARCA/CRA Super Series and JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour drivers will have their meeting at 11:00am, with practice starting at 12:00pm. The series will alternate practice until 3:00pm. Drivers, teams and fans will all eagerly anticipate qualifying for both division beginning with JEGS/CRA at 4:15pm, followed by ARCA/CRA.
Sunday, feature racing will begin at 2:00pm, following the 1:30pm autograph session for fans to meet and great SpeedFest 2013's drivers.
