SpeedFest has in recent years, kicked off the racing season in the United States as Super Late Model teams from across the country have made the trek to Lakeland, Florida from 2005-2008 and then Braselton, Georgia from 2009-2011. Now the event is in its second year at Watermelon Capital Speedway in Cordele, Georgia and Travis Braden is hoping to kick off the 2013 racing season with a visit to victory lane.
The ARCA/CRA Super Series will headline the festivities on the fast 4/10s (0.400) mile semi-banked paved oval with a
200-lap non-points race to officially draw open the curtain on the new season. Braden and his Travis Braden Racing
Team will travel south from Wheeling, West Virginia armed with the 2012 ARCA/CRA Super Series Rookie of the Year
title.
"After what has seemed like a long off season for me even though it has only been a few short months, I am ready to
knock the dust off and get back on the track." The 18-year-old remarked as his team prepared for the haul into the
Peach State. "Going to Cordele this early in the season is a great way for me to get back in the zone on the track.
It also gives myself as well as my team a great kick start to get the ball rolling for the 2013 season." He added.
Over the short off-season, Crew Chief, Gary Estes and the rest of the team have made a number of changes to both
cars in the stable to try and improve what the team feels they lacked in 2012; "We know we left some wins out on the track last year, and we also know we had some races that we truly weren't in contention to win." Braden continued. "Our goal for 2013 is to capitalize on the races we are in position to win and get the cars running consistently in the front every race."
In the ARCA/CRA Super Series during the 2012 racing season, Braden was the Rookie of the Year while finishing a solid fourth in the final points standings. In 14 starts he recorded four top five finishes with a season high of a third coming at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan back on May 12th. Overall, he also has six top 10 showings and one Fast Qualifier Award, which came at Flat Rock Speedway in Flat Rock, Michigan on September 8th.
As for the remainder of the 2013 schedule for Travis Braden Motorsports, according to Braden, the schedule is not yet finalized for the team; "I cannot really say what races we will or won't be running as of yet, but anything is a possibility at this point." He explained. "We will be running at least a majority of races in the ARCA/CRA Super series, and possibly some other super late model shows as well. The idea is to produce the best results possible with the least wasted effort. I always want to improve on previous seasons." He ended.
